AFRICA OPPORTUNITY: Developing Key Transshipment Hubs

Africa can pioneer a stronger trade and logistics sector by capitalising on its Transshipment Hubs' potential. Being home to some of the largest shipping networks - the Suez Canal - connecting the Americas, Europe, and Asia - the region can potentially grow as a key maritime hub and absorb revenue from the recovering global maritime sector. In 2022 international maritime trade was recorded at $3.3 trillion but is projected to grow to $5.4 trillion in 2026. Currently, Africa only accounts for 7% and 5% of the global exported and imported trade goods, respectively. The key to changing this lies in the region’s ability to boost shipping ports and hinterland access.

In this conversation, Consultant Nomvo Faith Kasolo explores the value of developing transshipment hubs in Africa and high-potential ports in the region, including the Coega Development Corporation-managed Port of Ngqura - https://youtu.be/qEPTTlPq790.

Business Day TV also spoke to Nomvo to gain more insight into Africa's Transshipment hubs' potential: https://youtu.be/oYXOtDs0EZ8.
