AFRICA OPPORTUNITY: The Namibian “Green” Iron Project
Namibia is fast becoming an incubator for sustainable extraction practices, most recently exhibited in a partnership between Namibian and German renewable energy and engineering companies, labelled Hylron, and the Namibia Hydrogen Fund Managers, Nam-H2. The partnership funds Hylron’s Oshivela Project, Africa’s first climate-neutral iron plant, using green hydrogen to produce direct reduced iron (DRI).
The Oshivela Project follows Hylron’s 2023 pilot project in Germany, which took place in the TS Elino laboratory and showcased the success of the reduction process. This innovation combats the obstacle of decarbonising the iron and steel industry, which has historically relied heavily on fossil fuels to produce DRI. The new Namibian iron plant has the potential to produce an annual output of 15,000 tons in phase one of construction, with phases two and three promising 200,000 and 2 million tons, respectively.
AFRICA OPPORTUNITY: The Circular Economy, A billion-dollar opportunity in Africa
The circular economy presents a billion-dollar opportunity for Africa to tackle pressing challenges while unlocking sustainable growth.
This model can transform food systems, manage plastic and electronics waste, support low-carbon infrastructure, and enable sustainable mining by reducing waste by reducing waste, keeping resources in use, and regenerating natural systems. Beyond addressing environmental challenges, it creates economic opportunities and fosters social equity.
With its abundant natural resources and growing innovation, Africa has a unique chance to lead in global sustainable development. The time to act is now!

AFRICA OPPORTUNITY: Unlocking Africa's Hidden Lifeline
Africa has been facing severe and recurring droughts, exacerbated by climate change, leading to food insecurity, economic challenges, and heightened conflict risks. Despite these issues, the real problem isn't the scarcity of water but limited access to it. Beneath Africa’s surface lies a vast resource—groundwater. With reserves far more significant than those in rivers, lakes, and dams, groundwater could be a game-changer for the continent, especially in regions like Libya, Egypt, Sudan, and South Africa. However, careful management is crucial to ensure its sustainability for future generations. The solution to Africa's water crisis is right beneath our feet— it's time to unlock its potential.
